one, One, ONE! One is FUN!!

I can hardly believe that my sweet little boy is already ONE!! Well, except for the fact that he is now getting into everything, annoying his sister and being generally mischievous. What has 1 brought us?
- crawls on hands AND knees (took him months to get that down, ha ha ha)
- stands any chance he can get
- furniture cruising - his speed is quite incredible!
- 7, almost 8, teeth (oops, make that almost 10!)
- near constant babbling: ma ma, mo, something that sounds like 'milk', ba ba blah, da da dee. We swear he said 'more banana' a couple weeks ago.
- responds to directions: no touching, sit down, hands up, come here
- claps and waves
- screaming/shrieking in concert with big sis (a regular pastime)
- enjoys sliding and swinging at the park. Also enjoys eating sand and rocks but I wouldn't call that an accomplishment, ha ha ha
- drinks from a straw and eats anything in sight
- chases the kittens and loves to pet them and pull their tails. Again, maybe not an accomplishment!
- loves water: baths, bowls, cat's water dish, cups, lake. Any water, any time.
- can open the toy box and pull out toys
- hugs and kisses; open mouth, lots of slobber.
- loves to watch new people

He really has a sweet personality and has his mother wrapped quite nicely around his little finger. We just love him to bits!

His first birthday present to arrive came with Auntie Carli and Uncle Will when they were here for their visit. He might just enjoy sitting beside the pool and splashing more than sitting IN it but it's fun all the same!

Jacob's day was full of surprises. Kind of like the day he was born. First off, poor Jacob fell asleep face down on the dining room floor. Hmmm, I guess he might not be ready to give up that morning nap after all! Later, I happened to go upstairs for something and found Katie in the bathroom, using the plunger to unclog the toilet. Where does she learn this stuff?? Perhaps it is time for a chat about toilet paper use. Then I found a Northern Flicker hopping around the front yard. I hope it's not injured; maybe just stunned?

We thought a trip to Saskatoon to see his adoring (and adored) aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and great-grandparents was in order. Can anyone say 'cake smash'? We had a morning at the Forestry Farm Zoo. Katie was quite excited to see the lions. Unfortunately, they were less impressed with her and continued their morning nap.

Reading the pamphlet
Hmmm, this looks interesting!

** Side note: Katie got a special treat when we arrived in Saskatoon on Friday when Dean took her to see her first movie - Winnie the Pooh. Popcorn, her own drink and few other people in the theatre. Perfect!

After the zoo, everyone had a nice long nap and then Party Time!! It was great to have both families together (thank you, thank you, thank you to Carol and Lil for opening their beautiful home and yard for the party). The birthday boy did pretty well being the center of attention for a few hours. He even managed to stay up late and swing with Dad outside for a bit.
First cake - on his actual birthday

Mmmm, delicious!
